8th Year Internship Program Information
To 8th Year Students and Parents:
As mentioned at Back to School Night and in class, this fall the 8th year students will complete a three-day internship on November 17, 18, and 19 for a minimum of seven hours a day. The students will have several assignments accompanying this intern project including writing a resume, filling out a job application, submitting a written proposal to the school for the internship site and writing a paper at the completion of the project. Intern supervisors will be asked to evaluate the intern and students will receive a grade that is based on required assignments and the evaluation of the intern supervisor.
Students will need to find their own internship site and may require parent help with this. We are attaching an information sheet for prospective intern sites that can be given as you try to enlist a site.
The site will need to be approved by the school. Proposals can be turned in anytime, but must be submitted by November 3.
The school will then contact the intern site to confirm the details of the program.
Parameters for internship sites:
The site can be in Evergreen or the Denver Metro area provided the students and parents can arrange transportation to and from the site. Evergreen sites that have been used by our 7th and 8th year interns in the past can be approached.
- There should be one person at the site who is willing to supervise and evaluate the student.
- The student cannot work with a relative.
- The sites can include but are not limited to offices, restaurants, museum, stores, non-profit organizations, schools other than MSE, hospitals, libraries, industrial plants and shops.
- The student should work approximately eight hours each day, but the hours of work can fit the internship site.
- Only one MSE student can work at each site.
- The school has the right to veto an internship site.
- Students who need a suggestion for a site for a particular interest they have should check with Betsy.
- Any missed intern days must be made-up at a time mutually agreeable to the intern and the 8th year internship supervisor.
